Very basic, simple, quiet and clean; we prefered being away from center of town and in a residential area; easy walk to town; good breakfast; loved hearing all Como birds in the early morning; disappointed the pool wasn't full and functioning; easier to stay here if you have a car.
breakfast buffet was good
The pool was not in order and we not notified at the booking and the climb to the hotel was difficult from the town without a car. no restaurants etc near hotel at the top of the hill
It has a nice view, good balcony.
Very poor reception lacks professional attitude. facilities are very basic eventhough they can improve a lot. The 3 star rating is bit misleading. Reception is closed most of the time. No airconditioning, heating. Breakfast was buffet but someone looking over your shoulder. It has a pool, gym but not so great.
The best thing about Hotel Sonega was the balcony which had a few across Lake Como
The furniture in the room was very shabby and some of the tiles on the balcony needed replacing the 500 metres to the front was a bit misleading and there was no mention of the very hilly walk down to it the reception has very limited opening hours
Children had 30 minutes fun in the swimming pool!
We arrived late to the Hotel and the staff were quite unfriendly and not welcoming at all! Equally being told how many Croissants were permissible to be eaten at Breakfast felt odd to me! Not something I have ever experienced before!
location up on hill is great if you don't mind a short steep walk - quiet residential area but only 10 minute walk into the village centre. Swimming pool was fantastic and is the one real advantage this hotel has over others in the same price range. hotel has a nice relaxed atmosphere - probably too relaxed if you are somebody who prefers staff running around after you all the time.
The room we had could do with some attention and was very basic, shower dirty, and the pillows rock hard. The instant coffee served at breakfast is barely drinkable.
The breakfast. Close to the road that connect Lago Como and Lago Lugano.
The Family room that we got was very dissapointed. The level of maintaenaceof the place was poor. We came - by mistake - a bit late andwe got a very unpleasant welcome from the owner...
The manager (from Morocco) was excellent and helpful. The breakfast had sufficient variety.
1. Rooms were noisy - we could hear the conversation next door and any movement of furniture was very loud; 2. other residents were noisy long after 11pm and no-one seemed to protest (noise was coming from another floor otherwise I would have done so). 3. being in a residential area we were woken by a crying dog, screaming kids and asomeone using a circular saw renovating a nearby house! 4. the lake view was just visible if you went out to the balcony stood up and looked left - there it was over the roof tops of houses and apartments.
Although I booked a room for 4 people, and I payed for that, the 4th bed was a small extra bed. Apart from this, the view from the one side was beautiful and the room clean, but not something really special for its price
Very good breakfast. Nice pool for kids, too shallow for adults. Free parking. Silent neighbourhood.
Room was very simple, almost bare, but included all we needed (beds, towels, shower etc). Long way and long stairs up to the hill from city, but our 8 and 10 years old kids clambered those two times per day, not for babies/little kids.
Under-staffed hotel (i.e. albergo) ...but the one always-n-everywhere-present young employee was brilliantly service minded and professional. Also a nice, small, outdoor pool & sunbathing area.
Somewhat overprized compared to the modest comfort and overall condition of the room (expected more from a junior suite...).
Nothing! This hotel is best avoided.
This was a very disappointing hotel. The views from the hotel and rooms are nothing like the pictures. The pool was empty and only gets filled sometime in June which was not clarified on the website. We took a room with a lake view only because the normal rooms were not available. Definitely not worth the extra 40 Euros that they ask for it as the view was not great and they even tried to overcharge us. The rooms are very dull inside. The only redeeimg quality of this hotel was the breakfast.
We stayed for 2 nights and the hotel is average. It is clean but definitely overpriced.
There are several things worth mentioning. First, the hotel staff is very unhelpful in case something is wrong and you complain. We spent a whole night without a minute of sleep due to strong winds that were making the adjacent rooms' window shutters slamming every minute and making horrible noise. We and other guest complaint and asked for a refund but we were told that it was not a problem of the hotel but it was the wind that prevented us from sleeping. So, they refused to give us any money back for the terrible night. (Plus the reception works only from 8 am to 6 or 7 pm and there was no way to reach anybody during the night). The staff speaks almost no English and they use that to prevent you from arguing with them. They pretend that they cannot understand what you are saying to them. And third, the hotel appears to be quite far away from downtown up on a very steep hill. So, bare in mind quite the walk you need to do everyday whenever you are going back. I would definitely not recommend the hotel or stay again there.
Very helpful staff at the reception and at breakfast. Room was clean and tidy and the basics (bed, bathroom) were in decent condition.
Advertise as "water views", but you have to walk down to the end of the balcony and then you only get partial views. No views from inside the room itself.
Friendly reception and no nnonsense approach. Next door restaurant superb!
Walk back up steps from town. Going down ok
